Building Resilience through Play during COVID-19
How we’re responding next
"One thing that really worries me is this view that I keep hearing in the West, when people are saying we're in COVID recovery, the worst is over. It absolutely isn't, Africa is in crisis, India's in crisis, and is going to remain so."
The impact on children’s development will affect us for generations to come if we do not act now
In September 2021 we announced that our work responding to the pandemic is not over. Our partners will continue to support children and families still feeling the relentless sting of the COVID-19 pandemic. And we have hope that other institutions will follow suit to protect the futures of children globally.
The crisis we saw unfold in March 2020 is still very real, and we have committed to continue fighting the ongoing fallout which is affecting the development and wellbeing of children, caregivers, and teachers globally, as well as the systems in which they thrive.
Even in an emergency, learning through play is everywhere
Our partners have created, invented and experimented. They’ve discovered new friends and were entrusted with their voices, or worked in partnership to extend a collective impact. Together we left behind old boundaries in order to dance in uncertainty, in the best way we can.
We won’t be leaving behind the distance learners or forgetting about our new messengers - we want to keep the innovations of our partners alive. Paired with all the knowledge and learning we have gathered through the LEGO Foundation’s legacy of supporting children’s learning, we’re ready to continue to support our partners to foster learning and share the next ideas to come.
A whole new horizon has been uncovered, where learning through play is championed by parents, teachers, governments and communities together in the knowledge of its power to educate, comfort and heal.
